E-Commerce for Scotland's Best Deli
Billington’s of Lenzie is a multi-award winning family owned and operated deli based in Lenzie, Glasgow. Customer service, high quality artisan and locally sourced products, and value for money are tenants of their offering. The coffee is pretty good too!
We have worked with Billington's for years now. We have helped them transition from a business with no digital presence to one that has a punchy and sophisticated set of digital touch points that complements their core retail offering.
Billington's is an extremely popular business in the heart of Lenzie. Beyond the core retail side, the business regularly holds monthly tastings for it's various clubs (wine, gin and whisky) among other ticketed events. Customers could also "call and collect" items from the shop. And this was all managed offline with no centralised system. Opportunities to make these processes more efficient as well as scaling up the retail side through e-commerce existed online and the owners approached us to explore them.
We got to work developing a new e-commerce site using WooCommerce as the team was already familiar with WordPress. This enabled them to quickly grasp the new back-end features and settings needed to manage their new e-commerce store. Additionally, WooCommerce offered powerful features built-in or that could easily be added later to help in scaling-up online efforts so it was the best fit.
We set about designing and building the site, adding a significant portion of products to start things off. Additionally, we added functionality to help manage and sell tickets for upcoming events which took the burden off the staff doing this manually, thereby streamlined the whole selling process since the customer could do it quickly on the site by themselves.
Billington's has a superb array of wines, spirits and beers (there are over 100 gins alone) so we also added the functionality to sell subscription products via the site too. The team developed several drinks boxes that go out monthly to subscribers.
While the new features are excellent, ultimately, retail is the lifeblood of Billington's. With that in mind the website was designed to make use of new attractive imagery to better sell the proposition of visiting to new customers near and far.
In summary, we have an attractive, easy to use – both for the customer and team – and manage, yet sophisticated website that has had and continues to have a real impact on the business.
